BACKGROUND HISTORY
In 1993 Tom and Sandy Carrico with over 50 years combined experience in the pool business as lifeguards, competitive swimmers, high school and college teachers, swim coaches and certified pool operator instructors decided the time was right to start Carrico Aquatic Training. Beginning with aquatic education training and consulting for commercial swimming pool operators and owners, Tom originally taught certification classes and focused on swimming pool operational problems and procedures. In 1998 after years of repeated requests from several of their suppliers to move into the pool management operational business in Wisconsin, the business was expanded to a commercial swimming pool company concentrating on the operational management and supplier of water treatment systems to commercial swimming pools in Wisconsin. In 1999 the company was incorporated as Carrico Aquatic Resources, Inc. In 2000 the company opened an office in Milwaukee and added a second AFO instructor to take over the business enterprise of executing water management contracts for the Marcus Corporation. Today, the business has grown to include not only an office in Iowa, but also offices in the Milwaukee and Madison areas, with ten employees..
Tom Carrico, Chief Poologist teaches AFO classes for Wisconsin Parts and Recreation Association and has served on national advisory councils to Stranco (US Filter) and Olin (Arch) Chemicals, has taught national certification courses in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, California, Texas and last year taught the first AFO class to members of the National Spa and Pool Institute of Canada. Currently, Tom is a member of Wisconsin's HSF 172 code committee dealing with pool operational codes and the Department of Commerce Com 90 committee dealing with the aquatic facility construction codes and design, as well as serving on an advisory sub-committee to Wisconsin Department of Agriculture regarding restricted pesticide licensing for swimming pools.
Carrico Aquatic Resources, Inc. core business is developing water treatment and management systems for aquatic facilities by coordinating the pools source water chemistry with the water treatment chemicals to provide an automated chemical delivery system that provides the owners with safe, clean, sparkling blue water at the lowest investment in time and money. Many of the company’s clients are not only saving thousands of dollars per year on water treatment chemicals but have turned the pool’s chemical budget from a variable expense to a fixed expense that not only protects the swimmers but protects the investment in the pool structure and equipment.
One of the biggest challenges confronting aquatic facility operators of indoor facilities is the relationship between the oxidation rate in the water and the air quality of the aquatic facility. Carrico Aquatic Resources, Inc. continues to work in conjunction with chemists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and computer programmers to develop new advancements in chemical automation that will coordinate the treatment of the pool water chemistry with air handling systems to help eliminate the air quality concerns.
Carrico Aquatic Resources, Inc. specializes in new aquatic facility start-ups by balancing the water chemical systems as well as implementing chemical automation systems, filtration treatment plants and pool hydraulics; the company also focuses on training of the operators, writing lifeguard-staffing plans and incorporating operational plans. Some clients include the Green Bay Packers, Lake Geneva YMCA, The Heart of the Valley YMCA, University of Northern Iowa, the School Districts of Clintonville and Cedarburg, the University of Nebraska and Marcus Corporation
